Welcome to the new version of the Parish Nursing website. The upgrade was made nescessary because major chages have been made to the underlying software used to build the site. Whenever this happens we have to upgrade if we are to ensure that the site remains secure and free from the constant threats to the security which are part of life on the web.

This new version also brings with it a lot of improvements. many of these relate to ease of management for those who have the job of keeping the content relevant and up to date. It also introduces a greater of level of consistency in the way the different funtionalities work.

You will need an account and must login to access some of the facilities mentioned here,

Differences you will notice:

  • A cleaner look and feel to the site.
  • Complex context related side menu's have been replaced by tabs along the top of the pages which should make it easier to find your way around. Navigation  now happens at the top of the pages and is much more context sensitive.
  • A new downloads module. This is capable of having much more descriptive information about each download. We still have some work to do to add descriptions but you should already find it easier to navigate. It also enables us to place a direct link to downloads in any page of the site which mentions the download. However please bear in mind that downloads will never work if you do not have the appropriate software for opening the downloaded document installled on your PC. We cannot install this for you.
  • A simplified system for booking events.
  • An improved map system for locating projects offering a number of enhancements
    • Pins relate to projects so it is now possible to see the names of all Nurses where a project has more than one.
    • A list of all parish nurses in each region to the right of the map.
    • An improved information popup when you click on a pin in the map.
    • The popup window now allows you to use the Google maps streetview capability to get a live view of the area around the project.
    • A direct link to the individuals user profile and information about their project.
  • A new forum system. We have not migrated old content because this would have caused too many problems, but for the most part the former system was not widely used. If this is an issue, let us know. The main advantage of this is that it is easier to find your way around and add posts to the forum. It is also better integrated into the site so far less work is needed on our part to get this working for new users.
  • A new picture gallery for Parish Nurses. If you are a Parish Nurse you have the opportunity to submit your photos together with information about your project. Your contributions in this area are very important and will allow us to greatly enhance the content of this site and our communication about Parish Nursing.
  • Other underlying improvements will allow us to add context sensitive help for you the user. We have a lot of work to do to add the help information so please be patient with us, but at last we now have an effective way to do this. You can see this starting to be used in the new picture gallery where instructions are provided in each sectiom to explain how to add content.

We hope there will be very few teething troubles but some are almost inevitable. Could you please use the help desk area of the forum to communicate about these. This will help use to keep track of your requests and allow others to see if problems they have observed are already being dealt with.
